There are marigolds on the coffee table in a glass of water, iced coffee and reluctant rings on the wood. The car is packed and unpacked most weeks, camping, driving, friends’ cottages. Rosy cheeks and salty hair, melting ice creams and afternoons hiding from the heat that remind me daily of the lingering climate anxiety. Early riverside walks in cooler air, still bird spotting even though they’re quieter in August. We have a shrew resident that returned and realistically we’ll let hang around for a bit. A summer of high highs and low lows but I wouldn’t change it for the world
Dartford warblers, nightjars, stonechats, woodlarks, adders and common lizards are amongst the diverse species that made their home in the Dunwich Heath. The land had only just made a recovery from severe heat and drought from previous years and is thought to take decades to rewild once more.
Somewhat reluctantly sharing during luteal but maybe it’s just things I hope to find other people talking more about too. Sometimes I just feel like a little alien trying to work out how to talk to other humans

I started swimming in this river across from my house six years ago in lockdown. I’m not sure what moved me to get into ice cold water but it kept my mind quiet and remains to be the best way to reset my nervous system. I miss living so close to the sea, but it’s a pretty wonderful tonic in the meantime. I’m also a complete convert to the period pants from @hara_thelabel . I’ve never experienced comfort quite like it during the first few days that can be intense. It makes wild swimming that much simpler on your period too 🌞 ad
